The obvious is obviously wrong

"If we can't have fun at it, we don't do it"    (Richard Branson, billionaire and fun loving guy)

Just for the fun of it Richard amassed a huge fortune.   Richard Branson is my favorite example of a seducer who succeeds and has a blast doing it.   He will not tackle any project, start any business or invest in anything just because there is a lot of money to be made.   He must first be convinced that doing it would be fun.

"I refuse to work for a living but I'll play longer and harder than anyone at something I love"

Socrates said...'life is best lived as play' and getting paid to play must be the sweetest concept man ever created.   Its just a damn shame we usually get it backwards.   We choose jobs and a business based on its wealth potential.   Then end up dissatisfied and bored.   I wish that when I was starting out, someone had taken me aside and told me...

"Your job is to figure out what you love to do and are good at and then figure out a way to make a living at it"

That would have changed the course of my life at a very young age.   However, since we can only change and take action in this moment, I'm committed to do what I love.   I hope you do the same?  And lest you think I've gone all serious on you, I'll leave you with this...

Too strong of a belief

"The stronger your beliefs the more intolerant you become of other people's beliefs"

It's hilarious today to look at what we believed was so cool in the 70's.  Those of us that survived bell bottom jeans and go go boots now shake our heads in disbelief.   Fashion is just one of a multitude of things we put too much belief into.

"The need to be right is born in insecurity"

I never put my complete trust in anone who will never admit to being wrong on occasion.  Those folks will defend their beliefs right up to the point of their own demise and ours as well.   That's what happened with James Arthur Ray.   Total conviction that what he was doing and teaching was absolutely and without question the right thing to do.  Several people died that day because their leader was totally convicted that what he was doing was right.  That's what happens with people who will strap bombs on their backs and kill innocents.   That's what happened in Norway, a madman totally believing that he was saving Europe and then guns down children.   Beliefs held so strongly that there is no room left for logic.

What makes these people so dangerous to themselves and to others is that they have unthinking beliefs.   If a belief can't stand up to scrutiny, its probably not the truth.   There is little point in trying to dissuade an unthinking person, it can't be done.   Compromise becomes a dirty word like it is in US  politics right now.   I'm right and you're wrong is a very poor attitude when you are trying to reach an agreement for the common good.

I admire people with conviction and confidence in their beliefs.   I just don't trust people who will not allow for an ounce of doubt that they just might be wrong.

So if you are convinced that you are always right, just look at that picture above and ask yourself...did I think that was cool back in my day?   (because I sure did).

What are you here for?

How To Predict Your Future

"People can change but they rarely do"

Aristotle said, 'the unexamined life is not worth living'.   Nice try Aristotle but I think you should have been more specific.  You should have said, the unexamined habits make life not worth living.  He also said, we are the product of intelligent evolution.   Well some of us are, I'm just not sure which ones of us he was talking about.

"Choose your habits or they will choose you"

After examining some of my habits I came to the conclusion that most of them were not of my choosing.   I just adapted the habits of others in positions of authority over me as I grew up.  Parents, teachers, churches and peers habituated much of my thinking.  Some of my inherited habits are pretty good; I shower every morning and brush my teeth after most meals.   No problem there.  As for my bad habits....none of your business (but thanks for asking).

"Habits can make life fun, easy and abundant OR hard and difficult"

Refusing to change your habits is tantamount to refusing to control your own life.  It drives me nuts when someone says...but I've always done it that way.  Especially when that way isn't working.  Show me your habits and I can predict your future better than any psychic, astrologer or fortune teller.

Let me give you a few examples of how easy it is to predict someones future.  First, lets imagine someone has the procrastination habit.   I can predict that sooner or later something is going to come back to bite them in the butt.  I can safely predict that if someone has the kindness habit that they will make a very good and loyal friend.

The girl with the doormat habit is destined to be mistreated.   The one with denial habit will pay a bad price in the future.  The poor slob with the couch potato habit is going to become fat and have health problems.   See how easy this is?

Examine the habits of the people you know and you will easily be able to predict a lot of what will happen in the future to them.   You won't be right 100% of the time but I'll guarantee you will be right 90% of the time.  And you tell me what fortune teller is right 90% of the time?

Any school teacher can fairly accurately tell which students will succeed in the future.   Are they always accurate?  No, but they accurate 90% of the time.   They get to see up close for extended periods of time the habits of the kids they teach.   As I said, people can change but they rarely do and is true of the kids as well.

Its easy to predict the futures of others by examining their habits but what's tough is to examine your own habits honestly.   Too many of us have adopted a denial habit.  We need the help of a trusted friend to give us some honest answers about our good and bad habits.

"You are controlled through your habits"

One of the reasons we live in such an obese society is that we are being controlled by the food industry through our habits.  Pick up most any packaged food and read the label.   It usually contains high amounts of sugar, salt and sometimes MSG.   The reason they are in so many foods is because we easily become addicted to their taste.   The food industry bombards us with advertising to get us started on packaged foods and then we become addicted and develop a bad dietary habit.  Yep, in no time they've got us by habits.   Because big waists equal big profits!

to be continued... (later I'll tell you why willpower is weak power and how to have a swap meet for your habits)

God doesn't do ugly

How to attract wealth

"If work was that good for you they wouldn't have to pay you to do it" (bumper sticker)

While writing this chapter I got to thinking abou the great inventions of mankind.  It occurred to me that many inventions came about because someone was trying to make work easier or just plain avoid it.   So I suppose you could say the lazy guy had great potential to change the world.

Then there are people like Steven Jobs and his buddy Woz.   They were so buzy playing with computers in his dads gargage they ended up creating Apple Computers and becoming billionaires.  And how about that kid Zuckerberg?   He was just trying to score with the college girls when he invented Facebook.   These guys played their way to fantastic success.

When its something you have to do for a wage its called work.   When its something you love to do its play.   And getting paid to  play is about the sweetest concept man ever invented.   One requires work and the other effort.  Same thing only radically different (in a really good way).

Dare to be different

"Conformity is the leading cause of boredom"

All the fun and achievement in life is to be found on the outer edges of your comfort zone.  The fact is as Seth Godin said...'you won't be the next big thing by copying the last big thing'.   So when people say to me, Eduardo you know you are not normal like the rest of us?....I say...

"Lucky me, because normal people work twice as hard, make half as much and hardly have any fun at all"

Your mission is life is to find out what makes you unique and different and then to figure out how to use that to yours and the worlds  advantage!  Those who opt for conformity will one day realize that by being like everyone else they are replaceable.   Conformity means being common and anything common is valued  less.   Better to be remarkable and different then your value soars.  So here's to all of us who choose to walk away from the beaten path.    Because those on that well worn path aren't having much fun anyway.

"Its amazing what you can do with hardly any talent at all"

Those are the very words my son layed on me one day when he first saw my cartoons.   You see he knows I am one really crappy artist.   Occassionaly someone will compliment me on my drawings.   This never fails to make me chuckle knowing my lack of skills in that area.   So how did my cartoons evolve to what you see today?   Two things;

1)  Borrowed brains....anyone who can improve it for me does so with my gratitude.
2)  I just keep playing at it

This is one of my earlier attempts...

I know not very impressive but to me still funny.   And here is an example from by book...

So like my son said to me...."its amazing what you can do with hardly any talent"   IF....you keep playing at it and borrow brains whenever the opportunity presents itself.  So this is a good example of what I mean when I say...

Anything is possible if you can have fun doing it

"Success and happiness are inversely proportional to anything that is hard and difficult"

The good news is: if life hasn't worked out the way you dreamed it might, it could be because you just aren't having enough fun.  Isn't that beautiful?  Oh don't worry, I can hear that annoying little voice in your skull whispering to you....this guy is NUTS!  That may be true but the paradox is not.   By the time you are finished this book I am more than confident you will be a convert to the fun and easy path to abundance and happiness.

"Our minds play tricks on us so now its time to give it back some of its own medicine"

When things are going poorly we feel overwhelmed and this is when the mind starts playing tricks on you.   It starts telling you things like:  you are not smart enough or you just aren't working hard enough.   That's stupid!   We both know you are a genius and hard work has nothing to do with success and happiness (ok maybe you don't know that yet but stay tuned).

One of my aha moments came when I realized how much effort I will put into games.  After a game of squash I came off the court drenched in sweat, physically drained and on a high.  I thought to myself, wow it's amazing how hard I will play.   I get incredible fitness out of a game I love.  If you put me into an aerobics class or on a stationary bike I would not be able to maintain the effort long enough to get anywhere near the same benefit.   Make it a game and I will expend incredible effort.   So being the bright and lazy guy that I am, I reasoned that if everything was a game or fun then logically anything would be easier and thus possible.

"Opportunity is missed by many because it is dressed in play clothes and looks like fun"

Work is really good for those who want to make a modest living.  If that's all you want then go to work and forget about this book.   For those who want to do something exceptional, you need to start having more fun.   Fun at work, fun at home, fun in your relationships and even fun in your spiritual life.  Remember the wisdom of the bumper sticker that says...

"If work was that good for you they wouldn't have to pay you to do it"

Secret to a happy life

"Life is best lived as play"  (Socrates)

I may be a nut but I'm not the only one.  And it isn't just Socrates that shares my point of view.   Here's what another great philosopher Hercalitus had to say...man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play.   Yeah, its true those guys were around a couple of thousand years ago but todays billionaire Richard Branson says....we wont' take on any venture unless we can have fun doing it.   So if its good enough for philosophers and billionaires, its good enough for me.

"You can only be profoundly absorbed in doing what you love"

That is going to be demonstrated to you in this book.   I love my philosophy that...life was meant to be fun, easy and abundant.   So I'm going to have a blast convincing you with the kind of book you've never read before.   You see I learned awhile back that you can't bore anyone into wanting to learn anything.   And if I had set out to write the typical boring philosophy book, it wound never have seen the printed page.

"You'll never be good at seducing life until you master the art of fun"

Fun is not a trivial matter.   It is the most important thing in the universe.   Later you'll learn that energy flows to fun and fun is the path of least resistance.   Once you fully understand the power of fun you will realize life can be like when you were in elementary school; only the recess goes all day long with 20 minute work breaks.

"This won't hurt a bit"

In keeping with my philosophy that things go better if you can have fun doing it, I promise a fun, easy read but with a HUGE return on insights.   Then perhaps one day you will become a goofy guru like me.  Together we can start a new movement and make the world a better and much happier place.

PSST....I will confess there is no denying that hard work has gotten lost of warrior types great success and wealth.  My point is that hard work is just one path and it sure as heck isn't the fun one.

Anything is possible if you can have fun doing it

Admit it, you've tried hard and difficult and how's that worked for you so far?   Hmmm, just as I suspected.   All that old 'nose to the grindstone' got you was a flat face and a disappointing life.   Me too, until I discovered this paradox...

"Success and happiness are inversely proportional to anything that is hard and difficult"

The really good news is;  If life hasn't worked out the way you dreamed it would it could be because you just aren't having enough fun.   Isn't that beautiful?   Oh, don't worry, I can hear that annoying voice in your head whispering to you....this guy is nuts!  Well that may be true but the paradox is not.

"Our minds play tricks on us so now its time to give it some of its own medicine"

When things go poorly we feel overwhelmed.    This is when the mind starts playing tricks on you.   It starts telling you things like:   you are not smart enough or you just aren't working hard enough.  That's stupid because we both know you are a genius and hard work has nothing to do with success or happiness  (maybe you don't know that yet but keep reading).

One of my aha moments came when I realized how much effort I will put into games.   After a game of squash I came off the court drenched with sweat, physically drained and yet on a high.   I thought to myself...wow its amazing how hard I will play.  I get incredible fitness through play and I love it.   So being the bright and lazy guy that I am, I reasoned that if everything was a game or just plain fun then logically anything would be easier and thus possible.

"Opportunity is missed by many because it is dressed in play clothes and looks like fun"

Hard work is good for those who want to make a modest living.   So if that's all you want go back to work and forget about this book.   Now for those who want to do something truly exceptional, you need to start having more fun.   Fun at work, fun at home, fun in your relationships and even fun in your spiritual life.   Remember the wisdom of the bumper sticker that says...

"If work was that good for you, they wouldn't have to pay you to do it"

While writing this chapter I got thinking about the great inventions of mankind.   It occurred to me that many inventions came about because someone was trying to work easier or just to plain avoid it.   So I guess we could say that the lazy guy has great potential to change the world.

When it's something you have to do for a wage, it's called work.   When it's something you do because you love it, it's called play.  And getting paid to play is about the sweetest concept mankind has ever invented.  Just because I say so doesn't make it true.   Like others you've probably been habituated to the mantra...Life is hard and difficult and then you die.  So I expect to have a challenge proving to you that you can live life like play.   But a challenge is nothing more than a game and I really like to play.   So let the fun begin...
