Seduced by smells

“Waking up to a smell is a lot more satisfying than waking up to a noise. Instead of barging in uninvited and yanking you out into reality, smells enter your dreams with a silent knock and a polite "Excuse me?”
Adi Alsaid
Poets and writers have waxed eloquently about the beauty and attraction of scents.   But now business wants in the fun.   Scents are being used by some companies to manipulate you into buying or doing what they want you to do.   Scents are also being used to make you more generous and  be more trusting.   Politicians are even getting in on smell manipulation.

Some smells you need to know:

Windex.....the smell of citrus scented Windex has been shown to cause people to be more generous with their time and money towards noble causes.   The cleaning aroma also encourages people to be more honest and fair to deal with.   I guess it must stimulate the desire to be 'squeaky clean'.  Just thinking.....shouldn't court rooms and police stations have a nice clean lemony clean smell?  Someone should do some research on that?

Tropical smells.....one day all travel agencies will smell like the tropical resort they are peddling.  And why not it kindles that desire to go to one.   Some resorts even use specific smells throughout the resort so that when you smell it, you are reminded of the vacation and likely to want to return.  Just thinking.....resorts should give you some going away gift with their scent embedded in it.  Or, when they do magazine ads they could put the scent in it.

Ok, that's just two examples but now that I'm onto smell seduction ideat I will do some more research.    Hey maybe I can find that scent that will make me totally irrisitable to the ladies?   Nah, cancel that.    It might turn out to be the smell of money?

How to read and sell a person

Imagine if you could read when someone is lying to you?   Imagine if you knew how to present materials so that it would be more believable to your clients?   Well this is your lucky day because I'm going to give you one more tool for your success toolkit.

First, lets discuss how to read if someone actually feels strong about what they are saying.

The hand they gesture with gives away their true beliefs.   A right hand person will gesture with their right hand when they feel strong about something.   They will then gesture with their left hand when they don't believe strongly in what they are saying.    For a left hander it is just the opposite.

President Obama is left handed so next chance you get to see him giving a talk watch which hand he gestures with.    If he believes in what he is saying he will want to gesture with his left hand.   If he is not in belief with what he is saying he will gesture with his right hand.  It is an inborn reaction that we favor our dominant hand.

The world is dominated by righties so our cliches are based on the right hand thinkers.  That is were the expression....'my right hand man' orginates.   Or conversely why we say...'he dances like he has two left feet'.   Right is right and left is wrong (unless of course you are left handed).

Now lets discuss how to present materials in a way that makes them want to buy.

Right handed people prefer things on the right hand of the page.   When they view two similar choices their tendency is pick the one on the right hand side.   So if there are two similar job applicants or two similar products on a page they will tend to pick the one on the right.   The opposite is true for left handed folks.  Simple right?

Let's imagine that you have two products displayed on a table or counter.   Which side would you put the product you want the client to purchase?   Oh, you're so smart!  Of course this assumes that you've actually been observant enough to notice whether the person is right  or left handed?

You don't have to take my word or the word of the researchers who test this stuff try it out yourself. You may never be baffled by a politicians BS again.   Well, let's not carried away those dudes have been practicing deception for decades.    But even the most deceitful occasionally give away tell tale signs if you are alert to the signs.

Oh, and if you sell more products because you now know how to display them to advantage....you owe me a beer!

How to plan the perfect career

"To do what you love, are good at for which there is a market demand is the fastest, easiest path to living a dream"

I sure wish I'd seen this when I was just starting out!   It would have changed everything.   But the beautiful thing is that as long as we are still breathing, its not too late.

As I've studied this it occurred to me that one thing was missing.....the willingness to do what makes you uncomfortable.   Those who won't go out of their comfort zone are destined to be frustrated and waste their opportunities.   Think of the writer who produces a beautiful novel and then refuses to get out and promote her book?   Or the techie who writes a program that could change lives and then sits at home waiting for someone to discover them and their product?   Well, you get the idea.  Somewhere along the path to living the dream you will have to do things that make you uncomfortable.

And for those who occasionally lament our past mistakes, a word from my friend Eric Yoda Wallman....

"It is better to have learned and lived than to never have learned at all"

Naked bodies boost brainpower!

I thought that title would get your attention!

The things you find in psychology blogs amaze me.   But this one floored me.   Apparently when you view images of naked women or men depending on your preference, it stimulates more than you might think.   Yes kids, it stimulates your brain and increases your ability to process information.

Makes me wonder what the boss would think if you were looking at some lovely naked bods at work?  It's not that you are a pervert its just that you want to be able to perform better for the company.   Yeah, that's not going to work!   So here are some office acceptable alternatives to get smarter on the job...

Peppermint

Peppermint acts as a stimulant to the brain.    The scent cruises through your nervous system on a path to your brain and the result is increased alertness and memory.   If you read my previous article on chewing gum then it makes perfect senses to chew peppermint gum during the big test or when you need to do some clever work.

Coffee

Java junkies benefit from their morning fix with increased alertness, concentration and problem solving ability.   And they get the extra bonus of a release of dopamine (one of  the bodies feel good chemicals) into their system.   So coffee drinkers are smarter and happier BUT...yes, there is a but, it only lasts for around 45 minutes.   This explains why you shouldn't even try to communicate with some people until they've had their morning coffee!  My son is like that, he's not ready for the human race until he's got his morning coffee fix.   One more thing, it works in the afternoon as well (but you knew that right?).

Protein Snacks

Protein snacks such as nuts and seeds are excellent brain boosters.   They stimulate your brain cells to keep you alert and awake (most managers really like that in their staff).   It also keeps the growlies away.   So you have my permission to GO NUTS!

You are smarter than you think

I expect you all to experience a burst of brilliance with these handy dandy tips I'm sharing.   So when you are rich and famous remember me?

One last thought...

For some strange reason I can't get the first tip out of my skull, you know the one about the pictures of naked bodies?     Well here's what I've been thinking....the study used pictures and managed to stimulate the brain (and other things).    But what the study didn't test was real live naked bodies.   So I've been thinking....maybe I should use myself as guina pig.   I would be willing to let beautiful naked women walk around my desk to see if it gave me a bigger burst of brilliance than normal.   I know what you are thinking?    You're thinking that Guru Eduardo is willing to do anything to advance the science of brainpower boosting, right?

Pssst....leave a comment but just the bare facts!

I'll take that bet!

"If you are going to bet on anything, bet on yourself to win"

I've read research that shows how making a bet increases your odds of losing weight or getting fit.   In one study dieters who bet cash lost 13-14 pounds over 16 weeks.  That's quite impressive.    It immediately reminded me of when I quit smoking many years ago.   I had a bet with my roommate at the time for $50 on who could quit smoking.   $50 way back then was equal to about two days work.   That was a bet I was not going to lose especially to my cocky friend.

Several months went by and I kept thinking to myself, I'm amazed, I didn't think he had the willpower.  Then one day I drove up to the back of our apartment and there was the little jerk smoking his brains out.  Truth is he didn't last a day but didn't want to pay the bet.   Too bad for him, that night I went out and partied with his $50.

So I know betting on yourself can work.   What other bets could you make?   Lose weight, get fit, increase sales, write that book?    Or, if you are a manager or business owner you could have a bet with your staff to reach some goal.

Betting guidelines..

*  Those betting have to believe its achievable
*  Be specific as to exactly what must be achieved
*  Remember if one of the goals is to break a bad habit and start a new one, it takes between two weeks and two months to form the new habit.
*  Write it down
*  It's supposed to be FUN

Done properly betting is a game where everyone can and should win.

Why it works:

1.  It's a game and people like to win games.
2.  It takes the focus off of the willpower required and puts the focus on the prize.
3.  We don't like to lose

So you don't think it will work?   Wanna bet?

The real reason I wrote my book

"The main reasons for writing  a book is take yourself on a self journey of discovery or to have something to brag about"

Today a guy I barely know was asking me about my book.   After a brief discussion he asked me, 'why did you write your book?'   Then it hit me that no one had ever asked me that before.   I of course knew precisely why I had written the book but it didn't seem to come up in conversations.

So why did I write the book?   Glad you asked.    I wrote the book because I wanted to know all the ways to make MY life fun, easy and abundant.   I was convinced that I was doing most things the hard way.   Once I started searching  for ideas to make life fun, easy and abundant, I started finding answers.   Soon it turned into a passion.   I just need to know if some small change could make a big difference.

I was at a comfortable stage and yet unsatisfied with where my life had gone to.   You know that little nagging thought that you could and should be doing better.   That feeling in the pit of your gut that somehing was missing?

"I once read that almost everyone wants to write a book but only a very small group ever get beyond the talking about it stage"

When I stumbled upon my 'Seducer' theory everything started coming together.  The logical next step  was to write the book.   I'd like to be able to tell you that I worked my tail off and sweat bullets writing the book but that would be fairy tale.    No it was fun!   Ok, not exactly easy but fun.   I just used some of the theories I write about in my book to get it written.

No matter what happens in my life I know I will always be committed to continuing the search to find fun, easy ways to attract abundance.   It's in my DNA now.

If you haven't already read my book let me tell you, that the only reason to do so is if you tired of hard and difficult and want to look at new possibilities.   If you are one of those people who only have a cell phone because they quit making rotary phones, then my book is not for you.

Pssst....I am afflicted with a buring desire to write the second book.  It will take my 'Seducer' theory into the business world.   Yeah, I'm exploring all the ways to make business...fun, easy and abundant.  Stay tuned...

BONUS....you will notice in the days to come that my blog will get more active and that the articles will pertain more towards business success.      So you'll get a preview of what is to come or at least the first draft.
